Phenytoin sodium is an antiepileptic drug and an antiarrhythmic drug.
Phenytoin sodium can prevent the spread of abnormal potential activity in brain lesions to surrounding normal brain tissue, and play an anti-epileptic effect. It has inhibitory effect on the ectopic rhythm points of the ventricles and atrium, and can also accelerate the conduction of the atrioventricular and reduce myocardial automaticity, so it has anti-arrhythmic effects. Phenytoin sodium is indicated for the treatment of generalized tonic-clonic seizures, simple and complex partial seizures, secondary generalized seizures, and status epilepticus. Phenytoin sodium can also be used for trigeminal neuralgia, episodic dance athetosis, episodic control disorders, myostonia and cardiac conduction disorders in tricyclic antidepressant overdose.
