2. Pour 90ml of propylene glycol into a measuring cup. In addition to being a solvent, propylene glycol also has the function of moisturizing and penetrating.

3. Pour 180ml of alcohol into the measuring cup and stir for 1-2 minutes to fully dissolve propylene glycol and alcohol to obtain a mixed solvent. I used 75% medical alcohol here without adding water. If you use anhydrous alcohol, or high-concentration corn alcohol or double-dealdehyde alcohol, you need to consider adding 10-20% of water in total.

4. Pour the 15g minoxidil just weighed into the mixed solvent. If the solution does not reach the 300ml mark at this time, you need to add some more alcohol to 300ml.

5. Stir for 3-5 minutes until the minoxidil is fully dissolved and becomes transparent. If it is made in winter or at a relatively low temperature, it is best to prepare a pot of hot water and place the measuring cup containing the solution in hot water and stir for 2-3 minutes, which will accelerate the dissolution.

6. The production is now complete. The prepared solution should be a light yellow transparent liquid. If the color is cold, the proportion of propylene glycol should be appropriately increased, or the water should be reduced to prevent precipitation after the temperature drops.

Storage and Use

The method of using homemade solution is the same as that of branded drugs, 1-2 times a day, and the total daily amount should not exceed 2ml.

The homemade solution should be sealed and stored in a cool environment. Due to the limitations of the production environment and conditions, the shelf life of homemade solution is relatively short. It is recommended that the dosage made each time should not exceed half a year or less.

The difference between homemade solution and branded drugs is very small and negligible, and the risk may be a little higher. Some people will have mild contact dermatitis or other skin inflammation after long-term use of minoxidil. It is recommended to add a small amount of ethacridine lactate to the prepared solution to prevent it, which can also extend the shelf life.
