6-Mercaptopurine monohydrate is a widely used anti-leukemia agent and immunosuppressive agent.
6-Mercaptopurine monohydrate can inhibit amide transferase, thereby interfering with purine nucleotide synthesis, it can inhibit the conversion of hypoxanthine nucleotide to adenine nucleotide and hypoxanthine nucleotide to xanthine nucleotide, guanine nucleotide, it can also inhibit the synthesis of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) and cause a decrease in the level of deoxyadenosine triphosphate (dATP) and deoxyguanosine triphosphate (dGTP). This allows 6-mercaptopurine monohydrate to effectively inhibit DNA synthesis, thereby inhibiting the growth of tumor cells.
