In the brain, quetiapine fumarate has a high affinity for serotonin hydrochloride receptors and greater affinity for dopamine D1 and dopamine D2 receptors in the brain, quetiapine also has high affinity for histamine receptors and adrenergic alpha1 receptors, low affinity for adrenergic alpha2 receptors, but has little affinity for cholinergic muscarin-like receptors or benzodiazepine receptors.
Quetiapine fumarate is a novel atypical antipsychotic. Quetiapine fumarate is mainly used for the treatment of major depressive disorder, acute manic episodes of bipolar affective disorder, and various types of schizophrenia in adults.
