4-Aminosalicylic acid is a pharmaceutical intermediate used to synthesize the anti-tuberculosis drug sodium 4-aminosalicylate.
4-Aminosalicylic acid can delay the development of Mycobacterium tuberculosis resistance to isoniazid and streptomycin, and its mechanism of action may be to inhibit folate synthesis (but has no synergistic effect on antifolic acid compounds) / or inhibit the synthesis of auxin of cell wall mycobacteria, so that the iron intake of Mycobacterium tuberculosis is reduced, thereby achieving the bacteriostatic effect.
