Alfuzosin hydrochloride is an alpha-1 receptor antagonist used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia. Arfuzosin can reduce the resistance to urine flow by relaxing the tension of the smooth muscles of the urethra around the prostate, bladder neck, and prostatic segment, thereby alleviating symptoms such as increased urethral tension, resistance and pressure, and obstruction of bladder outlet associated with prostatic hypertrophy.
