Calcitonin salmon is mainly used to treat senile osteoporosis, postmenopausal osteoporosis and fracture transfer cancer hypercalcemia.
Calcitonin salmon significantly reduces bone calcium loss in high-turnover bone diseases such as osteoporosis, deforming bone disease (Paget disease), painful neurodystrophy (Sudeck's disease), and malignant osteolysis, and has a more significant effect on the trunk bone of postmenopausal osteoporosis than in the limb bone, and more significantly on high turnover bone disease than in low turnover bone disease. Calcitonin salmon can inhibit osteoclast activity while stimulating osteoblast formation and activity, calcitonin can also increase urinary calcium, phosphorus and sodium excretion by inhibiting osteolytic action and reducing renal tubular resorption, but serum calcium does not fall below the normal range.
