Cyclosporin A is a strong immunosuppressant. It can inhibit the reaction of cell mediators, can reversibly inhibit T cell proliferation, but does not inhibit the production of blood cells, nor does it affect phagocyte function. Therefore, cyclosporine A has the advantage of less inducing or worsening infection compared to other inhibitors.
Cyclosporin A is mainly used for anti-rejection of kidney, liver, heart, lung, bone marrow transplantation, and can be combined with adrenal corticosteroids, but not in combination with other immunosuppressants. It is also used in certain autoimmune diseases (eg, systemic lupus erythematosus, lupus nephritis, rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune hemolytic anemia).
