Vancomycin hydrochloride/HCL is a narrow-spectrum antibiotic that is primarily effective against gram-positive bacteria.
The mechanism of action of vancomycin hydrochloride is to bind alanyl alanine to the polyterminal of the sensitive bacterial cell wall precursor peptide poly with high affinity, blocking the synthesis of polymer peptidoglycan that constitutes the bacterial cell wall, resulting in cell wall defects and killing bacteria. In addition, it may also alter bacterial membrane permeability and selectively inhibit RNA synthesis. Vancomycin hydrochloride is characterized by strong bactericidal effect on gram-positive bacteria, strong antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis , Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, etc., and also has a certain antibacterial effect on Anaerobic Streptococcus, Clostridium difficile, Bacillus anthracis, Actinomycetes, diphtheria bacillus, gonococcus, Streptococcus vivira, Streptococcus bovine, Streptococcus faecalis and so on. It is not effective against most gram-negative bacteria, mycobacteria, rickettsia, chlamydia, or fungi.
