Methimazole is an antithyroid drug.
The mechanism of action of methimazole is to inhibit intrathyroid peroxidase, thereby hindering the oxidation of iodide absorbed into the thyroid gland and tyrosine coupling, and hindering the synthesis of thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3).
