Rosuvastatin calcium is indicated for the treatment of a variety of lipid abnormalities, including hypercholesterolemia, mixed lipid abnormalities, and simple hypertriglyceridemia.
Rosuvastatin calcium belongs to hydroxymethylglutaric acid monoacyl-CoA (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitor, which leads to a decrease in endogenous cholesterol production by competitively inhibiting the activity of HMG-CoA reductase, and a large amount of LDL-C in plasma is taken up by the liver resulting in a decrease in LDL-C, followed by a decrease in VLDL-C [3] and TG levels, indirectly increasing HDL-C.
