Selamectin is a semi-synthetic macrolide agent that is an antiparasitic agent and insect repellent.
The mechanism of action of Selamectin is the same as that of other avermectin drugs, on the one hand, it can act as an agonist of 4-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) to trigger the release of presynaptic GABA, which in turn causes an increase in membrane permeability to Cl ̄, on the other hand, the drug can open the chloride ion channel controlled by glutamic acid, so that the increase in Cl ̄ permeability leads to membrane potential hyperpolarization, thereby blocking the conduction of nerve signals, causing rapid, lethal and non-spastic neuromuscular paralysis and death of the worm.
