Ampicillin has a strong effect on most gram-negative bacteria, such as colon bacillus, Proteus, salmonella, Haemophilus, Brucella and Pasteurella, and is similar or slightly stronger than chloramphenicol and tetracycline, but the toxic effect is less than chloramphenicol and tetracycline. It is ineffective against drug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Ampicillin is used for respiratory and urinary tract infections, digestive tract infections, ENT infections, skin and soft tissue infections caused by sensitive pathogenic bacteria.
Ampicillin has inhibitory effects on both gram-negative and positive bacteria, and has a strong effect on E. coli, influenza bacteria, salmonella, shigella and some proteus bacteria.
