Octyl methoxycinnamate is a commonly used sunscreen, antioxidant and UV absorber. There is a conjugated large π bond in the molecule of octyl methoxycinnamate. This conjugated structure can be seen as having a benzene ring as the core, extending on one side to oxygen atoms including the substituent methoxy group, and on the other side to a double bond and ester group in another substituent. This conjugated structure determines that the substance has the property of absorbing ultraviolet light. Octyl Methoxycinnamate is used to prepare sunscreen (paste, lotion, liquid) and other skin care cosmetics, which can effectively absorb ultraviolet rays in the sun, prevent redness, sunburn, and ink on human skin, and is also a treatment drug for photodermatitis. It can be used in industry as an anti-aging agent for plastics, inks and ultraviolet absorbers.
