Oxaliplatin is used to treat colorectal cancer.
Oxaliplatin crosslinks with DNA through its metabolites inside the cell to form DNA complexes, which in turn terminates the replication of tumor cells, leading to apoptosis. Oxaliplatin induces apoptosis in tumor cells by damaging their DNA, inhibiting DNA and RNA synthesis, and triggering the body's immunological response. Oxaliplatin also has an inhibitory effect on ovarian cancer and melanoma cell lines.
