Sodium sulfadiazine is a moderate-acting sulfonamide antibacterial drug with a wide antibacterial spectrum and an inhibitory effect on most gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
Sodium sulfadiazine is mainly used for the treatment of patients with meningitis caused by sensitive Neisseria meningitidis. It can also be used to treat: 1. Acute bronchitis and mild pneumonia caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae and other streptococci that are sensitive to it. 2. Astronomic nokariasis. 3. Adjunctive to chloroquine-resistant falciparum malaria treatment. 4. Combined with pyrimethamine for the treatment of toxoplasmosis caused by Rhamine toxoplasmosis.
