Sulfadimethoxine is widely used as a synthetic antibacterial drug. Sulfadimethoxine has the following advantages such as a wide range of antibacterial, good stability, not easy to deteriorate, and some can penetrate into the cerebrospinal fluid through the blood-brain barrier after absorption.
The antibacterial mechanism of sulfadimethoxine is mainly bacteriostatic and inhibits the growth and reproduction of bacteria. For most gram-positive bacteria, some gram-negative bacteria are effective, and ineffective against rickettsia, mold, viruses, etc. Sulfadimethoxine is mainly used for the prevention and control of calf, chicken and rabbit coccidiosis, but also for the prevention and treatment of infectious rhinitis in chickens, avian cholera, Carinii leukocyte protozoa, toxoplasmosis in pigs and dogs (often combined with pyrimethamine) and nocardiosis in dogs and cats, and can also be used to prevent and treat bacterial rotten gill disease, erect scale disease, fish vibriosis, eel red fin disease, carp furunculosis, etc.
