Captopril is a synthetic non-peptide angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor that acts primarily on the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAA system). Inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) of the RAA system, prevents angiotensin I conversion or angiotensin II, and can inhibit aldosterone secretion and reduce sodium and water retention.
As an antihypertensive drug, captopril has a significant antihypertensive effect on many types of hypertension, and it can also improve the heart function of patients with congestive heart failure.
