Carvedilol can be used for essential hypertension and angina.
Carvedilol blocks α and β receptors, has no intrinsic activity, and has a calcium antagonist effect at high concentrations. Carvedilol has a strong effect on blocking β receptors, can dilate blood vessels, reduce peripheral resistance and lower blood pressure, and has little effect on cardiac output and heart rate. Carvedilol lowers blood pressure rapidly, can maintain the hypotensive effect for a long time, is used for mild and moderate hypertension, and can be treated alone or in combination with other antihypertensive drugs. It is also used for heart failure, myocardial infarction, angina, arrhythmia.
